Our story

The Cincinnati Official Juneteenth Parade (C.O.J.P.) was founded in 2021 as an extension of Cincinnati’s long-standing Juneteenth traditions. For over 35 years, our city has honored Juneteenth through the vision and dedication of community leaders like Mrs. Lydia Morgan, who helped establish the first Cincinnati Juneteenth Festival.

Building on that legacy, the Parade was created to bring Juneteenth to the streets — a living, moving celebration of freedom, resilience, and cultural pride. In 2024, we proudly partnered with Juneteenth Cincinnati, uniting our efforts to educate, celebrate, and uplift while keeping the spirit of Juneteenth alive for generations to come.

Honoring 40 Years of Tradition. Celebrating 5 Years as a National Holiday

We are proud to announce the upcoming documentary, Juneteenth in Cincinnati, a one-hour film produced by the Juneteenth Parade Committee and The Juneteenth Festival. The film will trace the history of our celebration from its humble beginnings in 1988 to its growth as a citywide movement that now includes the Cincinnati Official Juneteenth Parade.
